2015 Volvo XC60 pedal-pads: purpose, upkeep and when to replace
Referencing Volvo’s official VIDA service/parts information for the 2015 XC60 and major OEM parts catalogues, this model uses a removable rubber pad on the brake pedal (all transmissions) and, where fitted, a manual clutch pedal pad. The accelerator is an electronic pedal module with an integrated surface, so there’s no separate pad for it. That makes “pedal-pads” relevant to the 2015 Volvo XC60 for the brake (and clutch on manuals).
On a 2015 Volvo XC60, the pedal pads do more than just look tidy. They give reliable grip underfoot in the wet, reduce boot-sole slip during hard stops, and add a bit of comfort by cushioning pedal feel. They also protect the metal pedal arm from wear and corrosion. Being a small, inexpensive wear item, the brake pedal pad especially is worth keeping in top nick for safety and roadworthy/WOF inspections.
As part of normal servicing, it’s smart to inspect the pedal pad every 10,000–15,000 km (or each service). Look for:
- Shiny, smooth or hardened rubber that’s gone slick
- Cracks, splits, missing chunks or curled edges
- Pad not fully seated on the pedal plate
If any of those show up, replace the pad. It’s a quick, tool-light job: ease off the old pad, align the new one at the top edge, then work it over the pedal plate until the lip is seated all the way around. Don’t use lubricants—if needed, warm the new pad slightly to make it more pliable. For manuals, it’s a good idea to replace both brake and clutch pads together so the grip and feel match.
Keep the pads clean with mild soap and water. Avoid silicone or greasy dressings
