2015 Toyota Hiace driveshafts

Driveshafts are absolutely relevant on the 2015 Toyota Hiace (H200 series). Toyota technical literature for the H200—New Car Features (NCF), the Repair Manual “Propeller Shaft” section, and the Toyota Electronic Parts Catalogue—lists a rear-wheel-drive layout with a propeller shaft (often a two-piece shaft with a centre support bearing) transmitting torque from the transmission to the rear differential. Some markets also offered 4WD variants, which add front CV driveshafts alongside the rear prop shaft.

The Hiace’s driveshafts cop the job of moving engine torque smoothly and reliably down the length of the van. On most long-wheelbase models it’s a two-piece assembly joined by a centre bearing, with universal joints (U‑joints) at each end to handle angle changes as the suspension works. A well-balanced, correctly phased shaft keeps vibrations low and driveline wear down—exactly what you want in a workhorse.

  • What to watch for: shudder on take-off, a thump when shifting from reverse to drive, a high‑speed vibration, clacking under load, or visible play at the U‑joints or centre bearing.
  • Service habit: at regular services (10,000–15,000 km), inspect U‑joints for free movement and any rust-coloured dust, check the centre support bearing rubber for cracking, look for sling marks from lost grease, and ensure flange bolts are tight.
  • Greasing: if your U‑joints or slip joint have grease nipples, use the specified chassis grease until fresh grease purges—wipe excess. Many later joints are sealed
