2015 Toyota Crown tail-lights — purpose, care and replacement
Technical sources confirm tail-lights are absolutely fitted to the 2015 Toyota Crown (S210 series, 2012–2018). The Toyota Owner’s Manual and Repair Manual for the S210 describe the rear combination lamp assembly and tail function, and the Toyota Electronic Parts Catalogue lists “Rear Combination Lamp Sub‑Assembly (LH/RH)” for 2015 models, along with the high-mount stop lamp and related wiring. In short, this vehicle uses rear combination tail-lights as standard equipment.
On a 2015 Toyota Crown, the tail-lights do a lot more than glow red at night. They mark the car’s rear profile so others can see it in low light, they house the brake and indicator functions in the same assembly, and they help the Crown meet ADR/ECE lighting requirements when imported or complied for Aussie and Kiwi roads. Most 2015 S210 Crowns run LED tail and stop lamps for crisp brightness and long life, with reverse lamps and, depending on grade, indicators that may be LED or conventional globes.
Servicing the tail-lights is straightforward and worth doing at every service or WoF/roadworthy check. Keep the lenses clean with a pH-neutral wash and a soft cloth, built-up grime dulls the light output. If there’s moisture or fogging inside the lens, the housing seal might be tired—replace the gasket or the assembly before corrosion takes hold. A quick function test helps too: lights on, brakes applied, indicators and reverse engaged (with someone outside having a look). If both tail lamps are out, start with the TAIL fuse in the junction box and the light control switch. If only one side’s out, check the globe (where fitted), earth point and the boot-lid harness where it flexes.
For bulb-type positions (commonly the reverse lamp on some trims), pop the boot, remove the small access cover in the liner, twist the bulb holder and swap in the correct wattage globe. Don’t touch the glass with bare fingers. For LED tail functions, the LEDs are integrated, if they fail, the fix is to replace the lamp assembly. That means removing the boot trim, undoing the mounting nuts, unplugging the connector and sliding the unit out. Lightly snug the fasteners on refit and check the foam seal sits flat to keep water out.
Handy tips: avoid dark tints over the tail-lights (they can fail compliance), stick with quality parts, and if a fuse keeps blowing, chase a pinched wire before tossing more fuses at it.
- Check operation at dusk monthly
- Clean lenses and inspect seals
- Verify fuses and connectors if lights are dim or out
Are the 2015 Toyota Crown tail-lights LED or bulbs?
Most 2015 S210 Crowns use LED tail and stop functions in the rear combination lamp. Indicators are often LED too, while reverse lamps may remain a conventional wedge globe on some grades. The quickest way to confirm is to watch for “instant on” behaviour or check the lamp markings and the Owner’s Manual for the specific trim and market.
How do you replace a tail-light on a 2015 Crown?
If it’s a bulb position (commonly the reverse lamp), remove the boot access cover, twist out the holder, and fit the correct globe. For LED tail functions, the LEDs are part of the assembly—remove the boot trim, undo the mounting nuts, unplug the harness and slide the lamp out to replace it. Refit carefully so the gasket seals, then test all functions. Allow 20–40 minutes per side with basic tools.
Which fuse controls the tail-lights on a 2015 Crown?
Look for the TAIL fuse (often 10–15 A) in the instrument panel or engine bay fuse box—use the fuse-box lid diagram or Owner’s Manual for exact location. If brake lights are out, also check the STOP fuse, if indicators are out or hyperflashing, check the TURN/HAZ fuses. Recurrent fuse blows usually point to a wiring short, commonly in the boot-lid harness where it bends.
