2015 Subaru Outback clutch kit – what applies and how to look after it

Technical references make the fitment pretty clear: the 2015 Subaru Outback 2.5i and 3.6R petrol variants use Subaru’s Lineartronic CVT (TR580 and TR690), which does not use a conventional friction clutch or a clutch kit. This is documented in Subaru Australia’s MY15 Outback Specifications, Subaru New Zealand’s 2015 Outback brochure, and the Subaru service manual for the BS Outback drivetrain. However, the 2015 Outback 2.0D diesel was offered with a 6‑speed manual in Australia and New Zealand, and that variant does use a conventional clutch assembly. So, a clutch kit is not relevant to petrol CVT models, but is relevant to the 2.0D 6‑speed manual.

For the 2015 Outback 2.0D manual, a clutch kit exists to restore smooth take‑off and clean gear changes. It typically bundles the pressure plate, friction disc, release (throw‑out) bearing, and often a spigot/pilot bearing, with optional bolts and alignment tool. Together, these parts manage engine torque transfer to the gearbox and allow disengagement for shifting.
