2014 Suzuki SX4 brake-shoes — are they used on this model?

For the 2014 Suzuki SX4 sold in Australia and New Zealand, brake shoes are not used. Technical references including the Suzuki SX4 (YA/YC) Workshop Manual, Section 4E Brakes, the Suzuki Electronic Parts Catalogue (rear brake groups), and AU/NZ market specification sheets list the SX4 with front ventilated disc brakes and rear solid disc brakes, with a cable-operated parking brake that works the rear calipers. There’s no rear drum, and no “drum-in-hat” style parking brake, so there are no brake shoes on these models.

Brake shoes are specific to drum brake systems. The 2014 SX4 in this market uses disc brakes all round, which rely on brake pads clamping a rotor. Suzuki specified discs at the rear for stronger, more consistent stopping power, better heat management on hilly roads, and stable performance with ESC and ABS tuning. Because the handbrake pulls on the rear caliper levers (not an internal drum), there isn’t a separate mini shoe set for the parking brake either.

What owners should service instead of brake shoes:

  • Rear brake pads and rotors: Inspect pad thickness and rotor condition during regular services
