2014 Suzuki Splash tail-lights
Tail-lights are fitted to the 2014 Suzuki Splash. That’s not just manufacturer practice, it’s a legal requirement. Australian Design Rules ADR 13/00 (installation of lighting) and ADR 49/00 (front and rear position lamps and stop lamps), along with UNECE Regulations 48 and 7 for many export markets, mandate rear position lamps on passenger cars. Suzuki’s own owner’s manual for the Splash describes the rear combination lamp assembly, which includes tail, stop, indicator and reverse functions. So tail-lights are absolutely relevant to this model.
On a 2014 Suzuki Splash, the tail-lights make the car visible from behind at night, in rain, and in low light, helping everyone judge distance and speed. They sit within the rear combination lamps and run at a lower intensity than the brake lights. They also pair with number plate lighting so the vehicle’s rear is clearly seen when the headlights or parkers are on. It’s a small part, but it does a big safety job and keeps the car compliant for rego and WOF checks across Australia and New Zealand.
For routine servicing, it’s smart to check the Splash’s tail-lights every few weeks or at each fuel stop:
- Confirm both rear position lamps glow evenly when parkers or headlights are on.
- Look for cracks, fading or moisture in the lenses, water ingress can corrode bulb holders and cause intermittent faults.
- If a bulb is out, replace like-for-like wattage and cap type as listed in the owner’s manual. Avoid mixing LED retrofits unless they’re ADR/WOF compliant and won’t trigger bulb-out warnings.
DIY bulb replacement is straightforward on most Splash variants:
- Switch the car off and open the boot.
- Remove the trim cover to access the rear lamp fasteners.
- Undo the retaining screws or nuts, then ease the lamp straight back—don’t lever on the paint.
- Rotate the bulb holder anti-clockwise, pull out the old bulb, and install the new one without touching the glass.
- Refit the holder, check the foam seal is seated, reinstall the lamp, and test.
If both tail-lights are dead, check the relevant fuse in the cabin or engine-bay fuse box and inspect earth connections for corrosion. A dab of dielectric grease on contacts helps keep moisture at bay. During servicing, confirm the lamp seals are intact and that wiring isn’t pinched behind the trim. Keeping the lenses clean and free of fine scratches preserves brightness, which can make a real difference on dark, wet Kiwi and Aussie roads.
Popular questions about 2014 Suzuki Splash tail-lights
Are the 2014 Splash tail-lights LED or standard bulbs?
The factory setup is typically conventional filament bulbs housed in a rear combination lamp. Aftermarket LED replacements exist, but they must match the correct fitting and meet ADR/NZ compliance to stay road-legal and avoid odd dash warnings or hyper-flashing.
Where’s the tail-light fuse on a 2014 Splash?
Depending on trim, it’s usually in either the interior fuse panel or the engine-bay box, labelled for tail/park/position lamps. The owner’s manual lists the exact cavity and rating. If a new fuse blows again, look for a pinched wire or water in the lamp.
Is it okay to drive with one tail-light out?
It’s unsafe and can attract a defect or fail a WOF. Visibility drops markedly in rain or at night. Replace the bulb as soon as possible, it’s a quick fix and helps keep the Splash compliant.
