2014 Nissan Dualis temperature-sensors
Temperature sensors are absolutely relevant and fitted to the 2014 Nissan Dualis (also known as Qashqai in AU/NZ). Nissan’s factory service manuals detail several temperature-related sensors on this model: the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor in the Engine Control (EC) section, the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor (integrated with the MAF on many engines), the Ambient and Evaporator Temperature Sensors in the Heater & Air Conditioning (HA) section, and a Transmission/CVT Fluid Temperature sensor in the transmission (TM/CVT) section. These references are found across the Nissan DUALIS/J10 and Qashqai/J11 Electronic Service Manuals and are standard on petrol and diesel variants.
The ECT sensor is the big one for day‑to‑day running. Under the bonnet, it feeds live coolant temp to the engine computer so it can tweak fueling, ignition timing, idle speed, and kick the radiator fans on and off. That’s why a crook ECT can cause cold‑start dramas, rough idle, high fuel use, or fans running flat‑out. The IAT helps fine‑tune mixtures as the air warms up or cools down, the ambient and evaporator sensors keep the climate control comfy without freezing the evaporator, and the CVT temp sensor protects the transmission by adjusting shift strategy and, if needed, putting it in limp‑home when things get too hot. Diesel models may also use exhaust temperature sensors for DPF management.
There’s no scheduled replacement for these sensors, but they should be checked whenever a temperature‑related fault code pops up or symptoms suggest dodgy readings. A scan tool showing live data is the go‑to—compare displayed temps to a cold engine (should be close to ambient) and to known operating temps once warmed up. Typical ECT codes are P0115–P0119 and P0128.
- Common signs: hard cold starts, poor economy, rich smell, electric fans on early, erratic A/C performance, CVT overheat warnings.
- Quick tips: keep coolant fresh and at the right mix
