2014 Honda Accord gas struts — are they used?
For the 2014 Honda Accord (9th generation), gas-charged lift supports aren’t a factory-fitted item for the bonnet or the boot. Technical references including the Honda Accord Service Manual (2013–2015, Body section: Hood/Bonnet and Trunk/Boot) and the Honda Electronic Parts Catalogue (EPC) list a manual bonnet support rod and a torsion-bar counterbalance system for the boot, with conventional hinges—no gas struts are shown for either end on Sedan or Coupe variants.
Why didn’t Honda fit gas struts here? It comes down to design choices for reliability, packaging, and cost across global markets. A simple steel prop rod for the bonnet is light, robust and far less likely to fail over time, while torsion bars for the boot provide balanced opening without the added weight and long-term pressure loss that can affect gas-charged lift supports.
