2014 Holden Captiva 5 Pedal Pads

According to the Holden CG Series II Captiva workshop manual (brake controls section) and the GM Global EPC for the CG Captiva, the 2014 Holden Captiva 5 is fitted with removable rubber pedal pads on the brake pedal, and on the clutch pedal for manual-transmission models. Aftermarket catalogues used in AU/NZ (including common ACDelco/GM listings) also show serviceable rubber pedal pads for this model. The accelerator is an electronic drive-by-wire pedal and does not use a separate rubber pad.

On this Captiva 5, the pedal pads do a simple but essential job: they provide grip, cushioning and a consistent pedal feel in all weather. The ribbed rubber face keeps the driver’s foot planted under emergency braking, helps damp vibration, and protects the metal pedal arm from wear. For manuals, the clutch pad gives the same secure contact and comfort during frequent stop-start driving.

As part of regular servicing, it’s smart to check the pedal pads whenever the vehicle is in for brakes or tyres. Rubber hardens and glazes with age, road grime and cleaners, which can reduce friction. If the pad is shiny, cracked, torn, loose on the pedal, or the ribs are worn flat, it’s time to replace it. Replacement is quick: the old pad is pried off and the new one is stretched over the pedal plate, seating fully around the lip.

To keep them in good nick between services, clean the pads with mild soap and water and a soft brush. Avoid silicone or solvent-based dressings on or near the pedals—they can make the surface slippery. If the Captiva 5 tows, is used off-road, or sees lots of beach work, inspect more often, as sand and salt speed up deterioration.

  • Signs it needs replacing: smooth/glazed surface, visible cracks or splits, pad lifting at the edges, or reduced grip in wet shoes.
  • Service tip: ask the tech to check pedal pad condition at each brake inspection and during WOF/rego prep.
  • Auto vs manual: autos have a serviceable brake pedal pad
