2014 Ford Falcon tail-lights
Tail-lights are absolutely fitted to the 2014 Ford Falcon and are legally required. Technical standards such as Australia’s ADR 13/00 (Installation of Lighting) and ADR 49/00 (Front and Rear Position, Stop and End-outline Lamps), along with New Zealand’s Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Lighting 2004, mandate rear position lamps (tail-lights) on passenger vehicles. Ford’s own Falcon FG MkII/FG X owner’s manuals also detail tail/stop lamp operation and bulb replacement, confirming their use on this model year.
On a 2014 Falcon, the tail-light assemblies house the red rear position lamps (what most people call “tail-lights”), the brighter red stop lamps, amber indicators and white reverse lamps. Their job is simple but critical: make the car clearly visible from behind at night and in poor weather, signal braking, and indicate direction changes. The regulations above set how bright they must be and how they’re positioned, so other road users can reliably see a Falcon from the prescribed distances, including the 200 m visibility requirement noted in NZ rules for tail lamps.
Servicing the Falcon’s tail-lights is straightforward and well worth doing regularly. Many 2014 Falcons use conventional bulbs for stop/tail and indicator functions, while some variants may feature LED elements. If it’s a bulb-type lamp, a failing globe can usually be swapped in minutes, LEDs, when fitted, typically require replacing the lamp unit if they fail. Always match the bulb specification and wattage shown in the owner’s manual, and check the fuse layout in the vehicle’s fuse chart if both sides go out.
- Test all rear lights monthly—tail, brake, indicator and reverse—ideally with a helper.
- Replace dim, blackened or flickering bulbs promptly, consider replacing stop/tail globes in pairs for even brightness.
- Inspect lenses for cracks and the housing for moisture, renew seals or the lamp if water ingress is present.
- Clean lenses gently with car shampoo and a soft cloth, avoid abrasive polishes that can haze plastics.
- After any replacement, confirm correct operation and that the lamp seats properly to prevent leaks.
Keeping the Falcon’s tail-lights bright and healthy isn’t just about passing a WOF or roadworthy—it’s about being seen early and clearly on Aussie and Kiwi roads.
Are the 2014 Falcon’s tail-lights LED or bulb-based?
Most 2014 Falcons use conventional bulbs for tail and stop functions, though some trims and late-2014 FG X variants may include LED elements or signatures. The quickest way to know is to check the owner’s manual or the lamp markings, or ask a parts desk with the VIN handy.
How do you replace a tail-light bulb on a 2014 Falcon?
On sedans, open the boot and peel back the trim to access the lamp fasteners and bulb holders, on utes, the lamp is typically secured from the tub side. Rotate the holder, swap the globe for the specified type, and refit securely. After installation, test tail, brake and indicator functions. If nothing works, check the relevant fuse and earth connection.
Why is there condensation in the tail-light, and is it a problem?
Light misting after rain or a wash can be normal and may clear as the lamp warms. Persistent moisture, droplets or pooling indicates a compromised seal or a cracked lens. That can shorten bulb life and reduce light output, so it’s best to reseal or replace the lamp to keep it dry and compliant.
