2013 Volvo XC60 pedal pads — what they do and when to replace them

Pedal pads are absolutely relevant on the 2013 Volvo XC60. Technical sources including Volvo VIDA/Parts Catalogue (Pedals, Group 36), the Genuine Volvo parts fiche for P3-platform vehicles, and mainstream aftermarket catalogues list a removable rubber brake pedal pad for all 2013 XC60 variants. Manual-transmission models also use a separate clutch pedal pad. The accelerator pedal is an electronic module and does not have a separate, replaceable pad.

On this model, the pedal pad is the grippy rubber cover fitted over the metal brake (and clutch) pedal arm. Its job is dead simple but critical: provide traction underfoot, channel away water, and keep the driver’s shoe planted during emergency stops and everyday commutes alike. In wet, sandy or muddy Aussie and Kiwi conditions, that extra bite is what helps prevent the foot slipping at the worst moment.

Over time, rubber hardens and wears. When the pad rounds off or cracks, braking feel can go a bit vague and the risk of a slip increases. It’s smart to inspect the pad at every service or at least annually, and more often if the vehicle sees beach trips, farm tracks or plenty of city stop‑start kilometres.

  • Tell‑tale signs it’s due: smooth or shiny tread blocks, visible cracks, loose fit on the pedal, or a slippery feel when wet.
  • Cleaning tip: wash with mild soap and water only. Avoid silicone sprays or dressing products that leave the surface slick.
  • Floor mat tip: use correctly retained mats so they can’t ride up under the pedal.

Replacement is straightforward: ease off the old rubber cover, clean the bare pedal, then press on the new pad—hook the top lip first, then work around the edges. Warming the pad in hot water for a minute makes it more pliable. Always verify the pad is fully seated before driving. For manual models, repeat the same process on the clutch pedal.

Many 2013 XC60 R‑Design cars feature sport pedal covers. These still rely on underlying rubber traction and should be inspected the same way. There’s no serviceable rubber pad on the accelerator
