2012 Toyota RAV4 Headlights
Headlights are absolutely fitted to the 2012 Toyota RAV4. That’s confirmed by Toyota’s 2012 RAV4 owner’s manual and the lighting rules vehicles must meet in Australia and New Zealand (ADR 13/00 and ECE R48). So yes—headlights are relevant, required, and essential on this model.
On the 2012 RAV4, the headlights do the heavy lifting after dark and in poor weather—helping the driver see the road and making the vehicle visible to everyone else. Most AU/NZ-delivered vehicles of this year use halogen bulbs, typically H11 for low beam and HB3/9005 for high beam, with T10/W5W for parkers. Some trims can vary, so it’s smart to verify against the owner’s manual or the label behind the dust cap on the headlamp.
Good servicing habits keep the RAV4’s headlights bright and legal. Bulbs dim gradually as they age, so replacing in pairs every few years maintains an even, strong beam. If night driving feels a bit dull, fresh bulbs can be a cheap win. Avoid touching the glass—use gloves—because skin oils can shorten bulb life. While the bonnet’s up, check the rubber dust caps are sealing properly to keep out moisture and dust.
Lens clarity matters too. UV haze on the plastic lens scatters light and can cause a WOF or roadworthy issue. A quality restoration kit can tidy this up, but if lenses are deeply crazed, consider replacement assemblies.
Headlight aim is worth a quick check whenever the RAV4 is serviced or after carrying heavy loads. Park on level ground facing a wall about 3–5 metres away, measure the cut-off height, and use the vertical adjuster at the back of each lamp to set it so the beam steps down slightly from headlight centre height. Aiming too high can dazzle other road users
