2010 Volvo XC60 Oil Filter — What It Does and When to Change It

Yes, the 2010 Volvo XC60 is fitted with an engine oil filter. Technical references including Volvo VIDA (Vehicle Information & Diagnostics for Aftersales) procedures and the 2010 XC60 Owner’s Manual specify a replaceable full‑flow oil filter across both petrol (e.g., 3.0 T6) and diesel (e.g., D5) variants, making the oil filter a relevant and routine service item on this model.

The oil filter’s job is straightforward but critical: it traps grit, combustion by-products, and microscopic metal particles so the engine only sees clean, pressurised oil. That clean oil keeps the timing components, turbocharger bearings, and camshafts happy, and helps maintain stable oil pressure and temperature. A healthy filter reduces engine wear, keeps varnish and sludge at bay, and supports good fuel economy and smooth running.

On most 2010 XC60 engines the filter is a cartridge element that sits inside a reusable housing, accessed from above under the bonnet. Some trims can require access from below with the undertray off. Either way, the element and its O‑ring are designed to be replaced at every oil change.

  • Service timing: replace the oil filter at every scheduled oil change per the logbook. In AU/NZ conditions, many workshops recommend every 10,000–15,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first
