2010 Mitsubishi Outlander wheel hubs
Based on technical sources including the Mitsubishi Outlander 2010 Factory Service Manual (front and rear axle sections), the Mitsubishi ASA electronic parts catalogue, and common OEM-equivalent hub/bearing listings from major bearing manufacturers, wheel hubs are fitted to the 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander. These sources describe front and rear hub and bearing arrangements, ABS tone ring integration, and service procedures for removal and installation.
On this Outlander, the wheel hub is the central mounting point that the wheel bolts onto, housing the wheel studs and supporting the wheel bearing. Its job is to let the wheel spin smoothly while keeping everything aligned with the suspension and brakes. Most trims use a sealed bearing either pressed into the knuckle with a separate hub at the front, and a bolt-on hub and bearing unit at the rear. All variants rely on hubs for accurate wheel location, brake rotor centring, and correct ABS signal pickup.
As part of regular servicing, a quick check of the hub and bearing condition is well worth it. If there’s a humming or growling noise that rises with road speed, a faint ABS light after potholes, or detectable play when the wheel is rocked at 12 and 6 o’clock, the hub/bearing assembly may be on the way out. Tyre cupping and uneven brake pad wear can also be downstream clues.
Replacement is generally straightforward but varies by axle and drivetrain. Front hubs typically require pressing the bearing in/out of the knuckle (special tools or a workshop press), while many rear units are bolt-on assemblies. Good practice includes:
- Use a new driveshaft/axle nut and torque all fasteners to factory spec.
- Keep the ABS tone ring and sensor clean and undamaged
