2010 Holden Captiva 5 headlight bulbs
Headlight bulbs are absolutely relevant to the 2010 Holden Captiva 5. Holden’s Captiva CG Owner’s Handbook (MY10) and GM service information describe replaceable halogen bulbs in the headlamp assemblies rather than sealed-beam units, with guidance on safe removal and refit. That means your Captiva 5 relies on serviceable headlight bulbs for its low and high beams.
The headlight bulbs do the heavy lifting after dark and in poor weather, helping the driver see the road and be seen by others. On the Captiva 5, these are conventional halogen bulbs that naturally dim with age. As part of regular servicing, it’s smart to check beam brightness and colour, make sure both sides illuminate evenly, and replace bulbs in pairs to keep light output consistent.
When it’s time to swap them, allow the lamps to cool, pop the bonnet, and remove the rear dust cap on the headlamp. Release the bulb retainer, unplug the connector, then fit the new bulb without touching the glass—skin oils can hot-spot and shorten its life. Refit the cap securely to keep moisture out. Space can be tight on one side, so patience (and a torch) helps. After replacement, a quick headlight aim check is worth doing so you don’t dazzle oncoming traffic.
Bulb types can vary by trim and market, so confirm in the owner’s manual or by checking the existing bulb. Many Captiva 5 vehicles use an H7 for low beam and HB3/9005 or H11 for high/fog in certain variants. Always choose ADR-compliant bulbs from a reputable brand. If you’re considering LED conversions, only use units specifically approved for on-road use in AU/NZ and compatible with the Captiva 5’s housings—otherwise you risk glare, vehicle warnings, and a defect at rego.
As part of routine maintenance (every 12 months or 15,000 km), add these quick checks:
- Look for dim, yellow, or flickering light
