2010 Ford Mondeo pedal pads — what they do and when to replace them
Pedal pads are fitted to the 2010 Ford Mondeo. This is supported by Ford’s Electronic Parts Catalogue (Microcat) for the Mondeo Mk4 (2007–2014), which lists separate rubber covers for the brake (and clutch on manuals), and Ford workshop procedures that reference inspecting and renewing the pedal rubber. Regulatory guidance such as Australian Design Rule 42/04 (non-slip pedal surfaces) and the NZTA Vehicle Inspection Requirements Manual (WoF) also expects secure, non-slip pedal pads, which aligns with how the Mondeo is built.
On a 2010 Mondeo, the brake (and clutch, if it’s a manual) uses a removable rubber pedal pad. The accelerator is typically a formed plastic tread that isn’t a separate rubber pad. The job of the pad is simple but critical: give the driver a grippy, non-slip surface so boots and shoes don’t slide off, especially in the wet. That grip is a safety feature, and it’s one of those small parts that quietly does big work every day.
As part of regular servicing, it’s smart to check the pads every 10,000–15,000 km or at each service/WoF/roadworthy. Look for cracking, hard glazing, smooth shiny areas, curled edges, or a pad that doesn’t sit squarely on the pedal. If the pad’s gone hard, slippery, or is starting to come loose, replace it straight away. Driving with a missing or worn-smooth brake or clutch pad isn’t just annoying — it can be unsafe and can fail a WoF or roadworthy.
Replacement is a quick, driveway-friendly job. Most owners can do it in 10–20 minutes:
- Slip off the old pad (a trim tool or flat screwdriver helps).
- Clean the bare metal pedal face so the new pad seats properly.
- Warm the new pad slightly if it’s cold, then work the lip over the pedal from one edge to the other until the pad fully locks around the plate.
Go for genuine or high-quality aftermarket pads that specify Mondeo Mk4 fitment
