2010 Ford Mondeo Alternator — Yes, It’s Fitted and It Matters
Technical sources confirm the 2010 Ford Mondeo does use an alternator. Ford’s Workshop Manual (Section 414-00 Charging System for Mondeo 2007–2014), Autodata specifications, and the Haynes Mondeo (2007–2014) manual all identify a PCM-controlled “Smart Charge” alternator (typically Valeo or Bosch) across petrol and TDCi engines. So it’s absolutely relevant to the 2010 model.
The alternator’s job is to turn engine rotation into electricity, keeping the battery charged and powering everything from headlights to the blower motor. On the Mondeo, the powertrain control module regulates output via a control line (LIN/COM), so charge rate adapts to load and battery state. Expect around 13.8–14.7 volts at the battery with the engine running, a bit higher on cold starts.
Good servicing habits keep the alternator happy. Under the bonnet, check the auxiliary drive belt, tensioner and idler pulleys for cracks, glazing or wobble. Many Mondeo engines use an overrunning alternator pulley (OAP)
