2010 Ford Escape pedal pads — what they are and when to replace them
Pedal pads are relevant to the 2010 Ford Escape. According to Ford’s 2010 Escape Workshop Manual (Brake Controls/Brake Pedal section) and the Ford Master Parts Catalog for this model year, the vehicle uses a removable rubber brake pedal pad on all variants, and a clutch pedal pad on manual-transmission models. The accelerator is an electronic pedal assembly with an integral tread surface and does not use a separate, serviceable pad.
On the Escape, pedal pads provide grippy, vibration-damping contact between the driver’s shoe and the pedal arm. The ribbed rubber face helps prevent slipping in wet conditions and keeps pedal feel consistent across daily commuting and long trips. Over time, heat, UV, dirt and everyday wear can harden or polish the rubber, reducing traction and comfort.
As part of routine servicing, it’s smart to eyeball the condition of the brake (and clutch, if fitted) pedal pads. Replacement is inexpensive and quick, and it restores safe pedal feel. Cleaning matters too: use mild soapy water and a soft brush to lift embedded grit, then dry thoroughly. Avoid silicone dressings, solvent cleaners, or petrol-based products — they can make the pad slippery or degrade the rubber.
- Replace the pad if ribs are worn flat, the surface is shiny or slippery, rubber is cracked or brittle, or the pad is loose on the metal pedal.
- For manuals, check the clutch pad at the same time as the brake pad.
- If the vehicle has aftermarket pedal covers, confirm they don’t reduce grip or interfere with pedal travel.
- Removal: lever the old pad off the pedal face, starting at a corner.
- Fitment: warm the new pad slightly (room temp or sun-warmed), hook the top lip over the pedal plate, then work the edges on until fully seated all round.
- Final check: press the pedal a few times to confirm the pad doesn’t shift and that full pedal travel is unaffected.
