2009 Nissan X-TRAIL Headlights
Headlights are absolutely fitted and relevant on the 2009 Nissan X-TRAIL (T31). This is confirmed by the Nissan X-TRAIL T31 Owner’s Manual (Lighting controls and headlamp operation) and the Nissan T31 Service Manual, Lighting System (LT section), which detail headlamp functions, bulbs, fuses and aiming. Road regulations such as Australia’s ADR 13/00 and New Zealand’s Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Lighting 2004 also require compliant headlamps on vehicles used on public roads.
The 2009 X-TRAIL’s headlights do the heavy lifting after dark, providing the forward beam for safe night driving and making the vehicle visible in low light, rain and fog. Low beam handles close-range illumination without dazzling others, while high beam throws light well down the road. Depending on trim, this model may use halogen bulbs or factory HID/Xenon with auto-levelling.
As part of regular servicing, the headlights deserve a quick once-over. Lenses can haze from UV, bulbs lose brightness with age, and wiring or seals can suffer after off‑road jaunts. Replacing bulbs in pairs keeps the light colour and output even. For halogens, common fits on T31 models are H11 (low beam) and H7 (high beam), while some higher trims use D2S HID for low beam. Always confirm by checking the owner’s manual or the markings on the lamp caps under the bonnet. Avoid touching bulb glass
