2009 Honda Elysion Headlights
Headlights absolutely are fitted to the 2009 Honda Elysion. Referencing technical sources such as the Honda Elysion Owner’s Manual (2008–2010 JDM editions) and the Honda Electronic Parts Catalogue, all variants use dedicated low- and high-beam headlamps, with some grades running halogen reflectors and higher trims featuring HID/Xenon projectors with auto-levelling. That makes headlights both relevant and essential on this model.
On the road, the headlights do the heavy lifting: providing a crisp low-beam cut-off for night driving without dazzling oncoming traffic, and a punchy high-beam for open-road visibility. They’re also key for compliance with Australian Design Rules and NZTA WoF standards, where correct operation and aim are checked at roadworthy/WoF time.
Servicing the Elysion’s headlights is straightforward and worth doing annually. Owners will find access to bulbs via rear service caps on the headlamp housings under the bonnet, full lamp replacement typically needs the front bumper cover off. Trims with halogen usually run common bulb formats for low and high beam, while HID-equipped trims use a D-series discharge bulb for low beam with a separate halogen high beam. Because bulb specs vary by grade, it’s smart to confirm by VIN in the owner’s manual or parts catalogue before ordering.
- Check beam aim on level ground about 5 metres from a wall, adjust using the vertical and horizontal screws on each headlamp. Poor aim can cause WoF/RWC failures.
- Inspect lenses for haze or yellowing. Clean and apply a UV sealant if needed to keep output strong and the front end looking tidy.
- Test both low and high beams. Replace bulbs in pairs to keep colour and brightness consistent. For halogens, avoid touching the glass, for HID, disconnect the battery and allow components to discharge, as the ballast carries high voltage.
- If a HID low beam flickers or won’t strike, check the bulb, ballast, and the auto-levelling sensor/linkage. For halogen systems, look for heat-worn connectors and correct 55 W spec bulbs.
- Address moisture inside the housing, a new seal or vent clean often fixes intermittent fogging and protects electrics.
Upgrades are fine when properly engineered, but any LED or HID conversions must maintain a correct beam pattern and meet local ADR/UNECE and NZTA requirements. A quality, compliant setup will keep the Elysion safe, legal, and easy to live with at night.
What headlight bulbs does a 2009 Honda Elysion use?
Bulb types vary by trim. Many halogen-equipped grades use halogen low beam with a separate halogen high beam (commonly H11 for low and HB3/9005 for high), while HID/Xenon grades typically use a D2-series projector for low beam with HB3/9005 high beam. Always confirm against the owner’s manual or parts catalogue by VIN before buying.
How do you adjust the headlight aim on a 2009 Elysion?
Park on level ground about 5 metres from a wall, tyre pressures set and fuel mid-level. Mark headlamp centre height on the wall and aim the low-beam cut-off to sit slightly below the mark. Use the vertical (and where fitted, horizontal) adjusters behind each lamp. HID models with auto-levelling should be checked for correct sensor operation before tweaking.
Can you fit LED bulbs to the Elysion headlights?
It’s possible, but legality and beam quality are the big issues. In AU and NZ, retrofit LEDs in halogen housings may not meet ADR/UNECE or NZTA WoF requirements and can cause glare or a poor cut-off. If upgrading, choose compliant components or complete lamp assemblies designed for LED, and verify the beam pattern before hitting the road.
