Servicing the Elysion’s headlights is straightforward and worth doing annually. Owners will find access to bulbs via rear service caps on the headlamp housings under the bonnet, full lamp replacement typically needs the front bumper cover off. Trims with halogen usually run common bulb formats for low and high beam, while HID-equipped trims use a D-series discharge bulb for low beam with a separate halogen high beam. Because bulb specs vary by grade, it’s smart to confirm by VIN in the owner’s manual or parts catalogue before ordering.
- Check beam aim on level ground about 5 metres from a wall, adjust using the vertical and horizontal screws on each headlamp. Poor aim can cause WoF/RWC failures.
- Inspect lenses for haze or yellowing. Clean and apply a UV sealant if needed to keep output strong and the front end looking tidy.
- Test both low and high beams. Replace bulbs in pairs to keep colour and brightness consistent. For halogens, avoid touching the glass, for HID, disconnect the battery and allow components to discharge, as the ballast carries high voltage.
- If a HID low beam flickers or won’t strike, check the bulb, ballast, and the auto-levelling sensor/linkage. For halogen systems, look for heat-worn connectors and correct 55 W spec bulbs.
- Address moisture inside the housing, a new seal or vent clean often fixes intermittent fogging and protects electrics.
Upgrades are fine when properly engineered, but any LED or HID conversions must maintain a correct beam pattern and meet local ADR/UNECE and NZTA requirements. A quality, compliant setup will keep the Elysion safe, legal, and easy to live with at night.
What headlight bulbs does a 2009 Honda Elysion use?
