2009 Ford Falcon thermostat housing: purpose, care, and replacement tips
Yes, the 2009 Ford Falcon (FG series) uses a thermostat housing. Technical references including the Ford FG Falcon Workshop Manual (WSM 303-03 Engine Cooling), Ford Microcat Electronic Parts Catalogue (cooling system group), and Ellery’s FG Falcon 2008–2014 Service Manual all show a dedicated thermostat and housing (often called the water outlet) fitted to both the 4.0L Barra inline-six and the 5.4L Boss V8.
On the FG Falcon, the thermostat housing anchors the thermostat in place and directs coolant from the engine to the radiator. It also provides mounting for coolant sensors and hose connections. On the 4.0L I6 it’s a moulded composite assembly at the front-left of the engine with O-ring seals and quick-connect hose fittings
