2008 Toyota Land Cruiser Wheel Hubs

Based on Toyota’s factory repair information for the 200 Series Land Cruiser (J200) and dealer Electronic Parts Catalogue used in Australia and New Zealand, the 2008 Land Cruiser is absolutely fitted with wheel hubs at each corner. The front end is full‑time 4WD and uses a solid drive flange rather than manual free‑wheeling hubs, but the hub, bearing, seal and ABS tone ring arrangement is very much present and serviceable. So wheel hubs are relevant to this vehicle.

On a 2008 Land Cruiser 200 Series, the wheel hub’s job is to support the wheel and tyre, keep the bearing correctly preloaded and sealed, and provide the mounting face for the brake rotor and the ABS pick‑up. Up front, the hub also mates to the CV axle via the drive flange for constant drive. Being a heavy wagon that tows, tours and sees corrugations, the hub and bearing assemblies cop plenty of load, heat and contamination.

There’s no regular greasing because the bearings are sealed units, but they should be inspected during routine servicing and at every brake job. Tell‑tales of a tired hub or bearing include:

  • A humming or droning that rises with road speed, especially when loading/unloading the corner in a gentle swerve
  • ABS/traction lights from a damaged tone ring or sensor gap issues
  • Disc rotor or wheel overheating, noticeable play when rocking the wheel at 12 and 6 o’clock, or uneven tyre wear

Replacement is straightforward for a trained tech but does require the right tools. The front bearing is a press‑fit into the steering knuckle
