2008 Toyota bB pedal pads
Pedal pads are fitted to the 2008 Toyota bB and are definitely relevant for servicing. Toyota’s Electronic Parts Catalog (for the QNC20/QNC21 series bB) lists dedicated rubber covers for the brake pedal and, where equipped, the foot-operated parking brake. Toyota workshop procedures also include routine inspection of pedal pad condition during brake checks. Regulatory guidance backs their importance too: the NZTA Vehicle Inspection Requirements Manual expects pedals to have effective non-slip surfaces for WoF, and Australia’s ADR 42/04 General Safety Requirements calls for slip-resistant pedal faces. Put simply, the 2008 bB uses pedal pads, and they matter for safety and compliance.
On the bB, the rubber brake pedal pad is standard across automatic and manual variants. Manual models also have a clutch pedal pad, and many cars with a foot-operated parking brake have a separate pedal pad there as well. The accelerator typically has a textured face that’s part of the pedal assembly rather than a removable rubber pad.
What do these pads actually do? They give grippy, cushioned contact so shoes don’t slip—especially on wet days—while also protecting the metal pedal plate underneath. When they wear smooth, crack, or curl at the edges, braking feel suffers and the chance of a slip goes up, which can also trigger a WoF or RWC fail.
As part of regular servicing of a 2008 Toyota bB, it’s smart to check pedal pads every 10,000 km or 6 months. Replace them if they’re shiny, hard, torn, or the rubber is thinning unevenly. They’re inexpensive, quick to fit, and instantly improve pedal feel.
- Signs it’s time to replace: slippery or glossy surface, visible cracks, missing chunks, or the pad won’t stay seated.
- Choosing parts: match transmission type and pedal style
