2008 Nissan Dualis coolant — what it does and how to look after it

Coolant is absolutely used on the 2008 Nissan Dualis (J10). Nissan’s factory service literature for the J10 series (Cooling System section) and the owner’s manual specify a pressurised, liquid-cooled system that runs ethylene‑glycol long‑life coolant to Nissan LLC/Blue specifications. That means coolant is relevant, required, and central to engine reliability on this model.

In the Dualis, coolant does more than stop the engine boiling on a hot Aussie or Kiwi summer’s day. It carries heat away from the aluminium engine, guards against internal corrosion, helps prevent scale in the radiator and heater core, and lubricates the water pump seal. The right mix also lifts the boiling point for better protection under load and during long climbs. For this generation, Nissan specifies an ethylene‑glycol, silicate‑free P‑HOAT formulation (Genuine Nissan Long Life Coolant or Nissan Blue), typically used at a 50/50 mix with demineralised water.

Service intervals depend on what’s in the system. If filled with Nissan Blue (extended‑life), many Nissan schedules call for a long first service window (often up to 7–10 years or around 160,000 km), then about every 5 years/100,000 km. Older green Nissan LLC usually needs changing more often (roughly every 2–4 years or 40,000–60,000 km). Always follow the service book and any label on the radiator support for the exact interval for the vehicle’s build and market.

Practical tips for looking after the Dualis cooling system:

  • Check the translucent reservoir level cold and top up only with the correct premix or Nissan‑spec concentrate plus demineralised water.
  • Never mix coolant types
