2007 Toyota Prius exhaust gasket — what it does and when to replace it
According to Toyota’s technical literature for the NHW20 (2004–2009) Prius — including the Toyota Repair Manual and the Toyota Electronic Parts Catalogue — the 2007 Prius does use exhaust gaskets. They’re fitted at key joints to seal the system: a manifold gasket between the cylinder head and exhaust manifold, and ring/donut-type exhaust pipe gaskets at the flanged connections in the front and mid sections.
The purpose of an exhaust gasket is simple but critical: it seals hot gases so they move cleanly through the catalytic converter and muffler, not into the cabin or out under the car. On a hybrid like the 2007 Prius, the engine cycles on and off
