2007 Nissan Navara gas struts
Checking factory documentation for the D40-series Navara (2005–2010), gas struts were not fitted as original equipment on the 2007 Nissan Navara. The Nissan Navara D40 Service Manual (Body section – Hood) specifies a bonnet stay rod, not gas-charged supports, and the Nissan FAST electronic parts catalogue lists a “hood stay” rather than any gas strut assembly. Tailgates on the D40 also use hinge/cable supports with no gas struts shown in the body parts listings. The owner’s manual likewise instructs using the prop rod to hold the bonnet open, reinforcing that gas struts weren’t part of the OEM setup.
Why no gas struts from factory? It’s largely down to simplicity and durability. A prop rod and basic tailgate hardware are rugged, cheap to replace, and less vulnerable to dust, mud, and corrosion—exactly the sort of punishment a ute like the Navara sees around Australia and New Zealand. Struts are wear items that lose pressure over time
