2007 Nissan Dualis fuel pump — what it does, why it matters, and how to look after it

Based on the Nissan Qashqai/Dualis J10 Electronic Service Manual (FL: Fuel System and EC: Engine Control) and Nissan’s parts catalogue for J10, the 2007 Nissan Dualis is fitted with a fuel pump. Petrol variants (HR16DE and MR20DE) use an in-tank electric fuel pump module, and diesel variants (K9K/M9R common-rail) rely on a high‑pressure pump and, depending on sub‑model, an electric in‑tank lift pump. Either way, a fuel pump is relevant and used on this model.

On the 2007 Dualis, the fuel pump’s job is to move petrol or diesel from the tank and keep the fuel system at the right pressure so the injectors can do their thing. For petrol models, the in‑tank pump module also houses the level sender and an internal fine filter, with pressure control built into the assembly. It’s quiet when healthy and delivers steady pressure for smooth starts, crisp throttle response, and decent economy.

As part of regular servicing, owners should keep an ear out for a loud whine from the tank area, note any long cranks, hesitation under load, random stalling, or fault codes like P0087 (fuel rail/system pressure too low) or lean mixture codes. Those are common signs the pump is tired or the internal filter is restricted.

When replacement is needed on petrol Dualis models, the service manual specifies swapping the complete in‑tank module rather than trying to service internal filters. Best practice is to replace the tank seal/O‑ring and inspect the lock ring and EVAP hoses at the same time. Diesel Dualis models also depend on clean fuel supply
