2006 Nissan Serena centre-bearing — is it used?

For the 2006 Nissan Serena (C25), a centre-bearing isn’t fitted on the common 2WD models, so it’s not a service item on those vehicles. Technical sources back this up: the Nissan Serena C25 Electronic Service Manual (2005–2007) describes a transverse front transaxle and front drive shafts for 2WD, with no propeller shaft or centre support bearing. The “Propeller Shaft (DLN)” section only applies to 4WD variants. Likewise, Nissan FAST parts catalogues and well-known parts databases list a centre support bearing only for C25 4WD models, not for 2WD.

Why isn’t a centre-bearing used on most 2006 Serenas? Simple drivetrain layout. The 2WD C25 is front‑wheel drive, so there’s no long, two‑piece prop shaft running down the middle of the van. Without that shaft, there’s nothing for a centre-bearing to support. What some owners sometimes call a “centre-bearing” on these vans is actually the intermediate (right‑hand) drive shaft carrier bearing that supports the longer front axle shaft—different part, different job.

Only the less common 4WD Serena C25 uses a propeller shaft to a rear differential, and those models do have a centre support bearing. If someone’s running a 4WD version, the centre-bearing becomes relevant for vibration control and driveline alignment. But for the typical 2WD Serena seen around Australia and New Zealand, there’s no centre-bearing to replace or maintain.

If there’s a hum, whirr, or vibration that sounds like a “bad centre-bearing” on a 2WD Serena, the smarter checks are:

  • Front wheel bearings and tyre cupping
  • CV joints/boots and the intermediate shaft carrier bearing
  • Engine and transmission mounts
  • Exhaust contacts or heat shields touching the body
