2006 Ford Mondeo water pump — what it does and when to replace it
Technical sources including Ford’s eTIS workshop literature, the Haynes Ford Mondeo (2000–2007) manual, and major parts catalogues from Gates/Dayco confirm that every 2006 Ford Mondeo variant (petrol Duratec HE 1.8/2.0, V6, and Duratorq/TDCi 2.0/2.2 diesels) uses a conventional, engine-driven centrifugal water pump. It’s absolutely a relevant, fitted component on this model.
The pump’s job is simple but critical: it circulates coolant through the block, head and radiator so the engine holds a steady operating temperature. On the 1.8/2.0 Duratec HE petrols (chain-driven cams) the water pump is driven by the auxiliary/serpentine belt. On the TDCi diesels (belt-driven cams), the water pump is also auxiliary-belt driven, not by the timing belt
