2006 Ford Falcon heater hose

Referencing the Ford BF Falcon Workshop Manual (WSM, Section 412-00 Cooling System), the Ford Microcat parts catalogue, and the Gates and Dayco Australia hose catalogues, the 2006 Ford Falcon (BF/late BA MkII) is fitted with heater hoses. These carry engine coolant to and from the heater core behind the dash, so a heater-hose is absolutely relevant on this model.

On a 2006 Falcon, the heater hoses do a simple but vital job: they route hot coolant from the Barra engine through the heater core so the cabin gets warm air when the climate control calls for it. The BF/late BA Falcons use a constant-flow heater circuit (no separate heater tap), with cabin temperature managed by blend doors, so those hoses are always seeing coolant flow whenever the engine’s running. That means condition and sealing matter for both comfort and engine health.

As part of routine servicing, the heater hoses should be inspected every service for softness, cracking, swelling at the clamps, oil contamination, or weeping coolant. Any sweet coolant smell in the cabin, foggy windows, or damp carpet can also hint at heater hose or heater core pipe seepage at the firewall connections. Given our Aussie and Kiwi climate swings, replacing aged hoses preventatively every 5–7 years or around 150,000 km is smart, especially if the vehicle tows or sees lots of urban heat soak.

Replacement tips that make life easier under the bonnet:

  • Only work on a stone-cold engine. Catch and dispose of old coolant responsibly.
  • Loosen spring clamps with proper pliers
