2005 Suzuki Swift MAP sensor — what it does, where it lives, and how to look after it

On this Swift, the MAP sensor reads intake manifold pressure so the engine computer can work out how much air is getting in. Along with intake air temperature and engine speed, the ECM calculates fuel delivery and ignition timing to keep things smooth and efficient. The end result is better drivability, decent economy, and clean emissions without relying on a fragile hot-wire MAF.
If the MAP sensor goes out of whack, the car can feel flat or thirsty, idle roughly, or flick the check engine light. Common fault codes are P0105 (circuit range/performance), P0106 (range/performance), P0107 (low input), and P0108 (high input).

Replacement is straightforward and usually a driveway job:
- Switch ignition off and disconnect the battery negative.
- Unplug the connector, remove the retaining screw(s)/bolt(s), and ease the sensor straight out.
- Lightly oil a new O-ring, seat the replacement, and tighten the fastener(s) gently (small screws/bolts are typically around 7–9 N·m, always follow the Suzuki spec for your variant).
- Reconnect, clear any codes, and take a short drive so the ECM can relearn trims.
Parts quality matters here—stick with OE or reputable aftermarket sensors to avoid flaky signals. Given the Swift’s speed-density setup, a healthy MAP sensor keeps fuelling spot on and saves a heap of guesswork when chasing idle or hesitation gremlins.
Where is the MAP sensor on a 2005 Suzuki Swift?
It’s mounted on the intake manifold. On most M13A/M15A engines it sits on the top or rear of the manifold, on the M16A Sport it’s usually on the firewall side of the manifold. Look for a small black sensor with a 3‑pin plug and a single O-ring seal.
Can a dirty MAP sensor cause poor fuel economy and hesitation?
Yes. A contaminated or lazy MAP sensor skews the engine’s load reading, so the ECM may overfuel or underfuel. That shows up as sluggish response, rough idle, and higher fuel use. Gentle cleaning with sensor-safe spray often restores proper readings.
Does the 2005 Swift use a MAF instead of a MAP?
No. The 2005 Swift (RS413/RS415/RS416) uses a speed-density system with a manifold-mounted MAP sensor and separate intake air temperature input, as outlined in Suzuki’s service manual and common trade references. There’s no hot-wire MAF in the intake ducting on these models.
