2004 Ford Transit engine mount — what it does and when to replace it
Engine mounts are absolutely fitted to the 2004 Ford Transit. If the mount uses torque-to-yield bolts, replace the bolts rather than reusing them. On RWD models, inspect the gearbox mount and centre bearing while you’re there, on FWD, check the upper torque link and subframe bushes.
Good practice after fitting new mounts includes rechecking torque after a short shakedown drive, ensuring the exhaust flex joint is relaxed (not pre-loaded), and confirming there’s no contact at full engine rock when blipping the throttle. Quality mounts make a huge difference to NVH, so sticking with reputable brands or OE-spec parts is worth it for a Transit that feels tight and tidy on Kiwi and Aussie roads.
