2004 Ford Mondeo Headlights — what they do and how to keep them shining
Headlights are absolutely relevant and fitted to the 2004 Ford Mondeo. This is supported by the Ford Mondeo Owner’s Manual (2004 model year, lighting section), Ford Technical Information System (TIS) service procedures, and regulatory requirements such as ADR 13/00 and UNECE R48 that mandate dipped and main-beam headlamps on passenger vehicles. Typical bulb fitments are H7 for low beam and H1 for high beam on halogen units, with some trims offering factory Xenon (HID) projectors using D2S bulbs with auto-levelling and headlamp washers.
On the road, the Mondeo’s headlights do two key jobs: help the driver see clearly after dark and in poor weather, and make the vehicle visible to others. Good light output reduces fatigue on late-night runs and keeps the car compliant for WOF/rego checks in NZ and roadworthy inspections in Australia.
As part of regular servicing, it’s worth giving the headlights a once-over. Bulbs gradually dim with age, lenses can haze from UV exposure, and alignment can drift after suspension work or a hefty pothole. Replacing tired bulbs and tidying up the lenses can restore a surprising amount of brightness.
- Replace bulbs in pairs to keep the beam colour and brightness even.
- Avoid touching halogen glass with bare fingers
