2004 Ford Mondeo exhaust gasket: what it does and when to change it
Technical sources confirm the 2004 Ford Mondeo uses exhaust gaskets. The Ford factory workshop manual for the Mondeo Mk3 and the Ford parts catalogue both list an exhaust manifold‑to‑cylinder head gasket, plus a sealing ring or flange gasket at the front pipe/catalytic converter joint on petrol and diesel engines. Haynes’ Mondeo 2000–2007 manual also specifies renewing these gaskets whenever disturbed, so the part is very much relevant to this model.
The exhaust gasket’s job is to seal scorching exhaust gases as they leave the head and flow through the manifold and front pipe. By maintaining a tight seal, it keeps the system really quiet, prevents fumes entering the cabin, protects nearby wiring and hoses from heat, and stops stray oxygen sneaking into the stream and upsetting sensor readings and fuel trims.
