2003 Honda Odyssey suspension bushes — what they do and when to service them
Based on the Honda 2003 Odyssey Service Manual, the OEM parts catalogue, and common aftermarket catalogues (Nolathane/Whiteline, Moog), the 2003 Honda Odyssey is fitted with multiple suspension bushes. These include the front lower control arm compliance bush, front stabiliser (sway) bar D-bushes and link bushes, rear trailing arm front bush, rear control arm bushes, and stabiliser bar bushes, plus rubber insulators at the strut top mounts. So suspension bushes are absolutely relevant to this model.
On a 2003 Odyssey, suspension bushes are the quiet achievers. They isolate vibration, keep the alignment steady, and let the arms and links articulate without metal-to-metal contact. That means less noise and harshness in the cabin, more consistent tyre contact, and sharper, safer steering — handy on a fully loaded people-mover doing school runs and long motorway stints.
The front lower control arm rear (compliance) bush is a known wear point on these, often causing a shudder under braking or a vague, wandering feel. Rear trailing arm bushes can crack and allow rear “steer” over bumps. Stabiliser bar D-bushes can squeak and knock, and tired strut top mounts can add a thud over speed humps.
- Common symptoms: clunks over bumps, steering shimmy on braking, uneven tyre wear, pulling or tramlining, squeaks in wet or cold, visible cracks or oil-soaked rubber.
- Inspection: check every service or 20,000–30,000 km
