2002 Nissan Pulsar Oil Cap

Yes, the 2002 Nissan Pulsar (N16 series) absolutely uses an engine oil filler cap. This is confirmed in the 2002 Pulsar/Almera N16 Owner’s Manual, the N16 Factory Service Manual (Engine Mechanical and Maintenance sections), and Nissan’s genuine parts catalog, which all show a threaded oil filler cap fitted to the cam/rocker cover on QG16DE and QG18DE petrol engines.

The oil cap has a simple but vital job: it seals the top of the engine’s oil filler neck, keeping dust and moisture out while maintaining the correct crankcase pressure for the PCV system. A tight, healthy cap helps the Pulsar’s engine oil stay clean and inside the engine, stops oil mist from weeping over the rocker cover, and prevents unmetered air leaks that can make the engine idle a bit rough or even trigger a check-engine light.

Because it’s handled at every oil change, the cap and its rubber seal can harden or crack over time. A missing or loose cap can spray oil under the bonnet, lead to low oil levels, and create a messy, smoky drive—none of which is ideal. As part of regular servicing, it’s smart to give the cap a quick once-over: check that it threads on smoothly, the seal is supple and intact, and there’s no milky residue or sludge on the underside that might hint at moisture contamination from short trips.

  1. Switch the engine off and let it cool.
  2. Wipe around the filler area so dirt can’t fall in.
  3. Remove the cap and inspect the rubber seal/O-ring.
  4. Replace the seal or the entire cap if it’s brittle, cracked, or leaking.
  5. Refit the cap hand-tight until it seats snugly—no tools needed.
  6. After the next drive, recheck for any weeping around the cap.

There’s no set replacement interval for the oil cap
