2002 Holden Astra Tail-Lights: Purpose, Care, and Replacement
Tail-lights are absolutely relevant and factory-fitted on the 2002 Holden Astra (TS series). Technical references including the Holden Astra Owner’s Handbook (TS, 2002), the GM Holden service manual for the Astra TS, and the Australian Design Rules that govern lighting installation and performance (ADR 13/00 and harmonised UNECE regulations for rear position, stop, indicator, reverse, and rear fog lamps) all specify rear combination lamps as standard equipment. That means every 2002 Astra left the factory with rear position lamps, brake lights, indicators, reverse lamps and reflectors, and—depending on market/trim—a rear fog lamp.
On this Astra, the tail-lights do far more than glow red at night. They make the car visible, signal braking and direction changes, and illuminate when reversing so others can see what’s happening. Lenses are designed to focus the correct colour and intensity, and the circuits are fused to protect wiring. Because these lights are safety-critical, they’re part of regular roadworthy and Warrant of Fitness checks across Australia and New Zealand.
For servicing, it’s smart to give the Astra’s tail-lights a quick look every few weeks, and before long trips. Replace blown bulbs promptly and stick to the correct wattage and base type as listed in the owner’s handbook
