2002 Ford Fiesta batteries: purpose, care and replacement
A 2002 Ford Fiesta is factory-fitted with a conventional 12‑volt lead‑acid starter battery. That’s standard across passenger vehicles of the era, as confirmed by Ford owner handbooks, workshop manuals and parts catalogues for the model range. The battery powers starting, lighting and ignition (SLI), stabilises the electrical system, and supports accessories when the engine’s off, while the alternator keeps it charged during driving.
On this Fiesta, the battery’s main job is to deliver a quick burst of cranking current to spin the starter motor, then act as a buffer for the ECU, fuel pump, lights, stereo and other loads.
