2002 Ford Falcon headlights: what they do and how to look after them
Headlights are absolutely relevant and factory-fitted on the 2002 Ford Falcon. This is backed by the Ford Falcon AU/BA workshop manuals and owner handbooks for that model year, as well as Australian Design Rules ADR 13/00 (installation of lighting) and ADR 46/00 (headlamps). New Zealand’s Warrant of Fitness requirements also expect compliant, functioning headlamps on vehicles of this era. So yes, the 2002 Falcon runs proper headlamps from the factory and they’re a key safety item.
On a 2002 Falcon, the headlights let the driver see and be seen, whether commuting before dawn or heading home after dusk. Low beam handles close-in, dipped illumination without dazzling oncoming traffic, while high beam throws light down the road for rural and highway stretches. Depending on whether the car is an AU Series III (early 2002) or the later BA (from around September 2002), the headlamp hardware and globe types differ slightly, but the job is the same: bright, reliable forward lighting that meets ADR and WOF standards.
Replacement is straightforward with basic tools. Under the bonnet, remove the rear dust cover on the lamp, unplug the connector, release the spring clip or twist-lock, and swap the globe. Don’t touch the glass with bare fingers—use gloves or a clean tissue—because skin oils can shorten globe life. Always match the correct wattage and base type noted in the Falcon’s handbook
