2001 Daihatsu Gran Move oil pump — purpose, servicing and replacement advice

Technical references confirm the 2001 Daihatsu Gran Move is fitted with an engine oil pump, so the part is absolutely relevant to this model. The factory workshop manual for the Gran Move/Pyzar (G3-series, late 1990s–2002) specifies a crankshaft-driven, trochoid/gear-type oil pump integrated at the front of the engine, and the Daihatsu Electronic Parts Catalogue lists an engine oil pump assembly for the common Gran Move engines of the era (including HE-series 1.5L and, in some markets, K3-series 1.3L). In other words, the Gran Move relies on a conventional pressure lubrication system with a proper oil pump and pickup.

On this 2001 Gran Move, the oil pump’s job is to pull oil through the pickup strainer, pressurise it, and feed the crankshaft, camshaft(s), lifters and other galleries, helping bearings live a long, happy life while carrying away heat and contaminants. Without steady pressure, hot-idle rattles, bearing wear and that dreaded red oil lamp become very real problems.

There’s no routine “replacement interval” for the pump itself
