2000 Nissan Navara engine-oil
According to the Nissan Navara D22 Owner’s Manual (1997–2004), the Nissan Service and Maintenance Guide for AU/NZ models of the era, and the Nissan D22/Frontier workshop manuals, the 2000 Navara absolutely uses engine oil. Whether it’s the KA24 petrol or TD27/QD32/ZD30 diesel, engine oil is a critical consumable and part of every scheduled service.
Engine oil does the hard yards under the bonnet. It lubricates moving parts to cut friction and wear, carries away heat, suspends soot and sludge so the filter can catch it, protects against rust, and helps seal rings for good compression. On timing-chain engines it also supports hydraulic tensioners. Without the right oil, a 2000 Navara will sound rough, run hotter, and wear out faster—no thanks.
For Aussie and Kiwi conditions, the go-to choices are:
- Petrol KA24: quality API SL/SM (or higher) in 5W-30, 10W-30, or 10W-40 depending on temperature.
- Diesel TD27/QD32/ZD30: diesel-rated API CH-4/CI-4 (or higher) in 10W-30, 15W-40, or 5W-40 synthetic for colder climates or heavy towing.
Stick to the viscosity chart in the D22 owner’s manual for your ambient temps. Short trips, towing, dusty roads, and lots of idling count as severe service, so tighten intervals accordingly. As a rule of thumb, most 2000 Navaras are happy with oil and filter every 10,000 km or 6 months
