2000 Daihatsu YRV Heater Hose — What it does and how to look after it
Based on Daihatsu workshop literature for the M200/M201/M211-series YRV and diagrams in the Daihatsu Electronic Parts Catalogue, the 2000 Daihatsu YRV is fitted with heater hoses. These rubber hoses route engine coolant to and from the heater core in the dash, making the cabin heater and demister work and helping the engine warm up evenly.
On this YRV, the heater hose pair carries hot coolant from the engine (under the bonnet) through the firewall into the heater core, then back to the engine. Besides providing toasty air on a cold morning, that flow is part of the cooling system’s bypass circuit, so healthy hoses also support stable operating temperature and efficiency.
After two decades, original hoses can harden, soften, crack, or swell—especially if exposed to oil. Smart servicing means inspecting the heater hoses every time the coolant is checked. Look for: surface cracking, spongy or overly hard spots, bulges, wet staining or crusty coolant residue at the hose ends, and tired or rusty clamps. If any of that shows up, replacement is cheap insurance.
When it’s time to replace, go with quality EPDM hoses that match the YRV’s routing and diameter, and renew the clamps at the same time. Use the correct Asian long-life coolant (silicate-free, typically red) mixed 50/50 with demineralised water unless using a premix. A quick, tidy approach under the bonnet:
