1999 Suzuki Vitara EGR valve: fitment, purpose and servicing
Whether a 1999 Suzuki Vitara runs an EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve depends on the engine and market spec. Factory technical documentation shows the 1.6 G16B and 1.8 J18 Vitara engines are fitted with an EGR system, while many AU/NZ–spec Grand Vitara models with the 2.0 J20A or 2.5 H25A do not use an external EGR valve. This is supported by Suzuki service manuals that detail EGR components and control for G16B/J18, and show no EGR hardware or control circuit for the H25A V6 (and some J20A) in AU/NZ emissions configuration. Suzuki’s electronic parts catalog also lists an EGR valve assembly for SE416/SE418 (G16B/J18) but not for SQ625 (H25A) in these markets. Owners can also confirm by checking the under‑bonnet emissions label: if EGR is part of the certified system, it’s called out on that label.
