1999 Suzuki Jimny Pedal Pads
Pedal pads are fitted to the 1999 Suzuki Jimny. Technical sources that confirm this include the Suzuki Jimny (SN413/JB33/JB43, 1998–2005) service manual sections covering brake and clutch pedals, as well as Suzuki’s Electronic Parts Catalogue, which lists a serviceable “pad, pedal” for the brake and clutch pedals on this model. The accelerator is typically a moulded pedal without a separate rubber pad on most variants. NZTA’s Vehicle Inspection Requirements Manual (VIRM) also notes pedal surface condition as a WOF check item, which is relevant to these pads.
On the Jimny, the brake and clutch pedal pads are simple rubber covers that provide grip, comfort and a predictable feel underfoot, especially in the wet or when jumping in with muddy boots. They also protect the bare metal pedal plates from wear. Over time the rubber hardens, cracks or goes smooth and shiny, which reduces traction and can trigger a WOF fail.
As part of regular servicing, it’s worth giving the pedal pads a quick once-over. If they’re glazed, split, missing chunks, or the tread pattern has worn flat, they’re due for replacement. It’s a five‑to‑ten minute job per pedal: lever the old pad off, clean the metal pedal plate, then warm the new pad in hot water and push it on, making sure the lip seats all the way around. Avoid silicone dressings or harsh solvents on the pads—they make them slippery and can degrade the rubber.
- Signs a Jimny pedal pad needs replacing:
- Slippery feel, especially when wet
- Cracks, splits or hard, shiny rubber
- Visible metal through the pad or pad missing
Genuine-style rubber pads are the safe choice and play nicely with WOF/roadworthy expectations in NZ and Australia. Alloy dress-up covers can be okay if they retain adequate grip and don’t interfere with pedal travel, but many shiny metal covers are a fail in wet conditions. For automatic 1999 Jimnys there’s no clutch pedal, so only the brake pad applies
