For Australia and New Zealand–delivered 1995 Suzuki Swift models (GA/GC series, including Holden Barina SB equivalents), an EGR valve is generally not fitted from factory. Why no EGR on these cars? Under the period ADR 37/00 and equivalent NZ emissions requirements, the Swift met NOx and HC/CO targets using a closed-loop EFI strategy, a three-way catalytic converter, charcoal canister purge, PCV, and conservative ignition mapping. With that package, Suzuki didn’t need exhaust gas recirculation to hit compliance, so the plumbing, vacuum controls and ECU logic for EGR were simply omitted on AU/NZ builds.
