1995 Suzuki Swift EGR valve — is it fitted on AU/NZ cars?

For Australia and New Zealand–delivered 1995 Suzuki Swift models (GA/GC series, including Holden Barina SB equivalents), an EGR valve is generally not fitted from factory. This is supported by workshop and parts literature such as the Suzuki Swift GA/GC service manuals (Emission Control System sections), the Holden Barina SB factory/Gregory’s manuals, Autodata AU/NZ emissions application charts for 1995, and Suzuki electronic parts catalogues for AU/NZ market codes, all of which list no EGR equipment for the common G13BA (1.3 SOHC) and G13B (1.3 DOHC GTi) engines in this region.

Why no EGR on these cars? Under the period ADR 37/00 and equivalent NZ emissions requirements, the Swift met NOx and HC/CO targets using a closed-loop EFI strategy, a three-way catalytic converter, charcoal canister purge, PCV, and conservative ignition mapping. With that package, Suzuki didn’t need exhaust gas recirculation to hit compliance, so the plumbing, vacuum controls and ECU logic for EGR were simply omitted on AU/NZ builds.

Notable market differences worth keeping in mind:

  • AU/NZ GA/GC Swift (SF413) with G13BA 1.3 SOHC: EGR not fitted (service/parts data list PCV and EVAP only).
  • AU/NZ Swift GTi (G13B 1.3 DOHC): EGR not fitted (performance tune with three-way cat
