Trico wiper blades have been around since Henry Ford mass produced his Model T Ford in the early 1920’s. His Model T’s may have even been fitted with Trico Wiper blades. You don’t last over 100 years without doing something right and Trico Wipers have been on the forefront of cutting edge wiper design and manufacture over this time.
The Trico Shield is a popular brand of wiper in Trico’s large range of blades and refills. In its distinctive green and black pack, these blades which are sold individually, come in various sizes and fit a range of different vehicles.
Lets investigate to see what makes this product such a popular choice.
What is a Trico Shield wiper blade?
Trico Shield wiper blades are a hybrid design that merges beam blade performance with a high strength protective covering for the blade. The protective covering helps protect the rubber blade against the elements as well as being an aerodynamic shape to reduce wind noise and help stop the wiper blade lifting off the windscreen at high speed. It is designed to contour to the shape of a curved modern windscreen for a streak free wipe.
How is it constructed?
In the diagram below it shows an exploded view of how a Trico Shield wiper is constructed. There are only 4 main pieces which keeps construction simple and less parts means better reliability as there is not as many pieces to wear out. Each part has a brief explanation of the role it plays in making the wiper blade work. Due to their unique construction, these blades cannot be refilled and the entire blade assembly needs to be replaced when it is worn out or damaged.

How does it connect to your vehicles wiper arm?
Due to differences in wiper arm designs, the Trico Shield wiper blade will not fit all vehicles. If your vehicle is one of the lucky ones that can fit it, then swapping wiper blades is easy. Trico have their Swift adaptor already mounted on the blade and this device requires only your hands to make the change. The video below shows how simple the installation is.
