Tips for Windscreen Wiper Maintenance

Because your wiper blades have soft rubber components, there are many different ways they can deteriorate. Ensuring that your wiper blades are functioning correctly is an important part of vehicle maintenance, not just for keeping your windscreen clean, but for ensuring you have proper visibility on the road during downpours.
The first thing to check for is damage to the rubber itself. If the rubber is scuffed and doesn't have a smooth surface, then it will not swipe across the windscreen properly and don't remove water consistently.
In more extreme scenarios, the soft rubber can begin to separate from the windscreen wiper entirely, and you'll need to replace it.
To avoid situations like this, regularly cleaning the wiper blades during regular car washes can help to keep the wiper blades in good condition, especially if you are removing acidic substances like bird droppings, which can slowly damage rubber and plastic.
In the winter months, make sure to clear frost off your windscreen manually before starting up your wipers, as the frozen particles can damage wiper components fairly easily.
