Tips for Replacing Consumables

When changing out maintenance consumables such as air filters, oil filters, and cabin filters, keep a Texta or paint marker handy and write the date and odometer reading on them before replacement.
By doing this you can have both a written and visual reference for the time between replacements. This can be more convenient than keeping a separate logbook or notepad for maintenance schedules, because notation directly on the consumable means the date is readily available every time you perform maintenance.
If operating your vehicle in extreme or dusty environments, you might need to replace your consumables earlier than scheduled, meaning that your dates between maintenance will fluctuate. This makes having a solid visual indicator of your maintenance dates particularly useful.
On the flipside, for those that don't drive frequently or have a classic vehicle that might sit idle for long periods of time, you might choose to extend the service interval before replacing consumables, making a written date a great way to keep track of when maintenance occurs.
