How To Use Vehicle Interior Wipes Properly

There are 2 main types of wipes to use when looking after a vehicle interior:

  1. Vinyl & Plastic Wipes
  2. Leather Wipes

Vinyl & plastic wipes are for your dashboard, steering wheel, and other plastic or metal components in your vehicle, while leather wipes are for leather upholstery.

The benefits of using wipes over sponges or cloths is that they are simple and easy to use. Once the wipe gets too dirty or dry, throw it away and pull a new one out of the packet. They are good to use to remove dust or finger marks. Most wipes can clean and protect.

If the interior is very dirty it pays to clean it with very mild soapy water in a bucket and a thin sponge or microfibre cloth. This is to remove the bulk of the dirt and once dry use the wipe to moisturise and protect the surface.

You can keep a pack of wipes stowed in your glove box for spot cleaning interior and exterior surfaces as they are a super convenient addition to your car care regime.

Step By Step for Using Vehicle Interior Wipes

Peel open the pack and pull out a wipe. After you pull out the wipe the important thing is to reseal the packet. With flexible packets try and push as much air out of the pack before resealing. This helps keep the wipes moist and reduces the problem of them drying out. Do not use wipes if the vehicle is in the hot sun or the dash is hot to touch. They are best used when the vehicle is in the shade or early morning or late evening when the sun is not as strong.

Select the correct wipe for the section of your interior you are cleaning. Vinyl or plastic wipes may contain UV protective sunblocking agents for plastic surfaces, while leather wipes often have beeswax or something similar to help protect your upholstery from further stains and damage.

Simply wipe over the area you are cleaning and protecting and go over the surface a few times, especially areas that are exposed a lot, like the tops of doors and dashboard upper surfaces. Once the wipe is too dry or dirty, discard it and get a new one.
